The Canterbury Tales
Illustration and Typographic Dust Jackets
The two illustrated dust jackets represent the themes from The Canterbury Tales. The disparate visual aids serve two different genres—classic and young adult literature. I designed these dust jackets for my Advanced Typography course, which emphasized typographic conventions and fonts. For the map design, I used a digital copy of a 15th century map of England coupled with a facsimile of The Canterbury Tales to mimic the Chancery handwritten style popular in 14th-century England. In contrast, the forest-themed dust jacket explores the pilgrims’ journey while using contemporary fonts to appeal to younger readers.
